There hasn't been a Miss Glass City competition in many years, so who represents
Toledo?
Usually, nobody! Because
there is no local competitions in Toledo or even Lucas County anymore.
This year is different though. Toledo
will not be represented by a crown and sash like many other Ohio cities, but
there will be a Toledo resident wearing one of those crowns and sashes competing
for the Miss Ohio title.
How so?
Well, if a Toledo resident wants a shot at the Miss Ohio title she has to do
allot of driving. She has to travel all over Ohio, competing in other cities for
a chance to be crowned. Once crowned in an Ohio city, she goes on to the Miss
Ohio competition and hopefully on to Miss America. A crowned contestant has a
long list of duties, not to mention preparing for the Miss Ohio competition.
Everything from making appearances and staying healthy, to volunteering in the
community and raising money for a designated charity. She also has to find
sponsors who will help pay for things she needs, like; travel accommodations,
hair and make up, an evening gown, and the of course the perfect swimsuit, among
other things. Not having a hometown competition makes it difficult to find
support and sponsors.
Who is the mystery girl from Toledo wearing this crown
and sash?
Jessica Nelson; a
lifelong Toledo resident, University of Toledo student and Independent
Distributor for "It Works!". Jessica has been crowned Miss Cuyahoga County and
will be competing for the Miss Ohio Title in June. She is 21 years old and has
been competing all over Ohio over the past year, waiting for her shot at Miss
Ohio. She hopes to one day bring the Miss Glass City competition back to Toledo
to help local girls get a shot at Miss Ohio. Jessica attends UT seeking a degree
that will take her through veterinarian school. Her passion for animals lead to
her volunteering at The Toledo Humane Society and taking in stray, abused or
neglected animals. She plays in the UT Band, and is raising money for The
Children's Miracle
Network.
Jessica is seeking support and sponsors from her hometown. The more support she raises the better her chances are to take the "Miss Ohio" title. She hopes to be competing for "Miss America" in January 2012, you can help make that happen!
